Paying for Music Therapy
In Florida, the only insurance plan currently reimbursing for music therapy is Sunshine Health. Individuals with Sunshine insurance and a qualifying diagnoses can receive services with no out-of-pocket costs. Soundwave takes care of the authorization process with your doctor, and handles the billing for you.
For individuals without Sunshine, additional options are available. Soundwave is an approved provider with several scholarship programs, including Step Up For Students, Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville, Northeast Florida Advocates, and more. For clients paying out-of-pocket, Soundwave offers a sliding scale.

Soundwave also leads groups with partnering organizations. Group sessions are an excellent alternative to bring music therapy to more individuals and enhance clinical programming.

If you're unsure if or how you can pay for music therapy, contact us. We would love to help discuss your options!
Becoming a Client
The process for becoming a client of Soundwave varies by how services are funded, and we guide you every step of the way.

1. Contact Soundwave Music Therapy and provide consent.

2. Explore funding options and identify payment method.

3. *If funding services through Sunshine Health* - Soundwave coordinates a medical evaluation with your physician, and submits an authorization request to Sunshine Health. Sunshine Health will review the request and submit an approval or denial to Soundwave's team. This process usually takes 1-2 weeks.
4. Once intake forms are complete and a payer source is identified, schedule your initial session. A music therapist will be assigned to you based on your needs, availability, and location.
